Provocator is a side project of Hellscream, the rabid Slovenian known for his vocal work with Bleeding Fist. Having released a limited EP Darkness Is Rising in 2013, Hellscream returns with his solo project?s debut full length album, the aptly titled Antikristus. This album is all about darkness and Satan, played to the tune of low-fi black metal that worships at the feet of the first wave while paying a tremendous homage to the forerunners of the second wave. While Hellscream only serves as the vocalist for Bleeding Fist, he proves himself to be a competent guitarist, as well. Nods to early Beherit and Von abound, as this is primitive and sloppily played, but it would seem as though this chaotic formula is controlled when bursts of thrashing blackness begin to evoke images of Destroyer 666 and Bestial Mockery. There are two distinct styles at play throughout Antikristus, one firing away without abandon with programmed blastbeats and buzz-saw riffing and the other a slower paced almost proto-black stomp, and Hellscream manages to combine the two convincingly. All the songs heremake a hell of a stab at jamming blasting second wave touches, rampant thrashiness and first wave worshiping into a cohesive blend of blackened metal. Highly reccomended for fans of Blasphemy, Beherit and Von!
