SEPTIC FLESH \"Esoptron\" [IMPORT!]

Originally released in 1995, Esoptron (that's apparently the translation) was the second album from Greek metal band Septicflesh. It was released back when they were known as Septic Flesh and played extremely heavy doom/death metal along the lines of My Dying Bride and early Paradise Lost instead of the symphonic metal they're known for today. Like the Septicflesh debut (1994's Mystic Places of Dawn), Esoptron is a completely heavy album, and one that is dominated by the huge, guttural vocals, and crushing rhythms. Some symphonic elements creep in here and there, and you definitely get the sense of something epic going on in the overall atmosphere of the album, but doom/death is the main focus here, and the band played this kind of music very well. It's also a bit less My Dying Bride and a bit more Morgion-sounding this time around, which is cool. Esoptron is a completely killer example of the doom/death genre. It's an album fans of bands like My Dying Bride, Novembers Doom, Morgion and Mindrot should love, though if you're only familiar with the later Septicflesh albums it may come as a shock.
