Early 90's Black Metal has always been lined with taboo and overshadowed by murder and arson, but Norway's Immortal stayed out of the media fire and just released music which was what they wanted to play. This album showed that Black Metal can be about fiction and fantasy, not morbid obsession and anti-religion. This album spawned lots of genres based on battles and fiction entirely. A different way to see Black Metal from the 90's. Pure Holocaust is a model of infernal efficiency. There are no extended or sprawling compositions here, only compact and concise songs meant to sting your memory like shards of ice. The title track closes the album with incredible style, bestowing us with a final cache of cachinnating riffs.
