SYF / ONWARD \"Foundation : The birth of Norwegian hardcore\" [ORANGE VINYL!]

In Lillehammer, not only the structures for the winter Olympic arenas take form, Ollie and Joe had started a project band called
SYF – STRAIGHT YOUTH FEDERATION, who came to release Norway’s first recorded material as a proclaimed Straight Edge unit. Ollie was part of other bands in Lillehammer and had been recording and releasing demos of his previous bands, such as the Impostor demo in ‘87 (more metal than HC, also featuring Messiah of the legendary Mayhem). Prior to recording the SYF demo Ollie bought a Tascam 4-track porta studio, which would be used for this and other demos to come. Ollie and Joe rehearsed a lot, and recorded the songs for the demo, but neither felt up to par on doing the vocals, so they teamed up with O.C. Wolfpack singer Torgny Amdam. He travelled from Oslo to Lillehammer and as the final step recorded the vocals for this 7 song demo, which was recorded at their rehearsal space at the old bank building in Lillehammer (top photo on front cover) with the help from mentioned friend Billy Messiah. Along with a cover drawing by Ollie and a lyric sheet, the demo saw the light of day on memorex cassettes June 1990. About 30 copies were made, which were distributed mostly to friends in Norway. Unfortunately, no photos exist from this time and the tape is still an obscurity. Shortly after the release of the demo, Joe moved back to his childhood village some 200 km north of Lillehammer, and SYF broke up.
